Dual-Density Dildos

$

One of my favourite types of sex toy on the market today is the dual-density dildo, and the simple reason for this is that they offer an unparalleled sense of realism, something which you'll almost struggle to believe until the first time you try one for yourself.

What makes dual-density dildos so special is that they're designed in such a way that they have a firm-yet-flexible inner core, surrounded by a layer of soft squishy material on the outside. It works in much the same way as a real penis, where the shaft is solid during an erection, while the head remains spongy. It's not something which many of us ever give much thought to, but this particular feature of the penis exists so as to facilitate comfortable intercourse for the receptive partner; the spongy head acts like a shock absorber, cushioning any accidental impact caused by over-vigorous thrusting, and the dual-density dildos mimic this perfectly.

The combination of material densities in these dildos gives a wonderfully natural feeling, even if you're just using them by yourself, and that can be reason enough to buy one; there's nothing at all alien about the way in which it feels, so you can really lose yourself in the moment, rather than being conscious that you're using an inanimate object. They're especially good for anal use, and even more so for beginners, because they're so gentle; the squishy head doesn't apply too much force to the sphincter as you're trying to insert it, allowing it to enter smoothly without coming as a shock, and once is it inserted that soft layer around the shaft absorbs the force of any clenching of the tight muscle against it. Where the dual-density dildos really shine though has to be in use with a partner for strap-on play. When you're using any dildo by yourself you're always conscious of your own limits, and are able to control the depth of insertion, but when a partner is in control this isn't so easy. Here is a prime example again of when the squishy head really works to your advantage, because when an over-excited partner goes a little too deep it's not going to feel like a battering ram to the guts like it may with something more solid, instead that soft tip is going to take that force and you'll just feel a little pressure inside instead.

At present there are two manufacturers of dual-density dildos, Tantus and Vixen Creations, and they each make them slightly differently, but one thing they have in common is what they make them from - silicone. Silicone is a wonderful material, not only because of its versatility which allows it to be made in different levels of firmness, but also because of its reputation as a safe material. With a high quality silicone product you can guarantee a number of important things: that it's odourless, and by extension tasteless, that it's non-porous, allowing it to be sterilised and shared between partners, and that it won't leach out any toxic chemicals into the body. Another great fact about silicone is how it reacts to heat. I've been talking a lot about how natural and realistic these dildos feel, and this is just another example of that; when you're using a silicone product you'll find that the material will steadily suck up heat from the body until it reaches equilibrium, and the result is that you'll be using a nice warm dildo which feels exactly the same temperature as your body - or indeed the same temperature as though it were someone else's body.

The first dual-density dildo I tried was from Tantus, and you can easily identify the products in their dual-density range by looking for the characters "O2" after the names. I currently have two, the Max O2 and the Adam O2. The core of the Tantus O2 dildos is made from the same type of silicone as the majority of their other products, so it has a nice amount of rigidity to it and holds its shape well, but you can still flex it about without too much effort. The shaft is covered with a fairly thin layer of the "SuperSoft" silicone, but it's distributed so that it's slightly thicker along the underside of the dildo, which is the area of a real penis through which the urethra would run, making this attention to detail especially realistic. The core extends only around 1/3 of the way into the head, leaving the rest of it made entirely from the softer silicone. The SuperSoft material really is lovely and squishy, not as much as the soft tissue would be on a real penis, but enough to give the right effect. In terms of visual appearance the Tantus O2 dildos do have one nice quirk, which is that they're dual finish as well as dual-density; the head has a completely smooth and shiny surface, while the shaft is slightly matte, again aimed at making it appear more natural. Aside from that the dildos aren't terribly detailed, and at most you'll spot a subtle vein along the shaft, or a wrinkle of skin below the head marking the location of the frenulum. The dildos come in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit your needs, including some with balls and some without. The Max O2 is long, thick, and straight as an arrow, while the Adam O2 is thinner, shorter, and curved especially for prostate stimulation, and amongst the rest of the range you're sure to find something perfect.

Vixen Creations take a slightly different approach to designing their dual-density dildos to Tantus, and I currently have four of them: the Randy, the Maverick, the Johnny, and the Outlaw. Vixen make their dildos from a type of silicone which they call "VixSkin", and this is all round softer than that used by Tantus. The inner core of the dildos has a much greater degree of flex to it; it's enough for the dildos to comfortably hold their shape, but place them in a harness and you're much more likely to notice a droop in shaft. The outer layer of soft silicone is also much thicker around the shaft than on a Tantus dildo, which takes away a little of the realism, but does make it slightly more comfortable during use. Again the softer silicone has more squish to it, and almost the entire tip of dildo is made from it, so if you were to take the head between your thumb and forefinger and squeeze, then it would compress far more than on the Tantus. This extra softness does have its pros and cons: it definitely adds additional cushioning inside the body during use, but in terms of insertion, sometimes the material just moves and stretches around when pressed against a tight orifice, rather than going inside, which can be a slight hindrance if you weren't planning on using a warm-up toy. In terms of appearance the Vixen dildos are markedly more detailed than the Tantus ones; there are plenty of veins along the shaft, folds of a retracted foreskin, and wrinkles along the balls (on those dildos which have them). This does give them a slight edge as they are very impressive to look at. Some of the dildos even include a suction cup built into the base which is a wonderful idea and very useful to have. There's really good variety of different shapes, sizes, and colours to pick from, so again you'll find one to suit your individual needs, or even several if you're like me.

I have to say that I really do love both the Tantus and Vixen dual-density dildos, and I wouldn't like to pick a favourite between them, if anything I like that they're different, because each will suit divergent tastes. I hope now it's clearer why I'm so convinced that dual-density dildos are amongst some of the best sex toys available today, and I also hope that it'll make picking the one that's right for you a little easier.

Merry Christmas!

I'm taking a little hiatus from blogging this month while I deal with all the festive madness going on around me, but I thought I'd post a quick update to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and also to thank some people for the lovely gifts pictured above.

A couple of my favourite companies sent me some wonderful and unexpected gift parcels this month. Give Lube sent over their new Raspberry and Cherry flavoured Oral Pleasure Gels which taste absolutely amazing, and Tantus provided me with a bumper box containing the Duke in this beautiful peacock colour, the Asteroid, the Ripple large, the Buck, the Plunge Paddle, and a Super Soft C-Ring in my favourite colour.

Unfortunately I do already own the Asteroid and the Buck, so I may use these spares for a giveaway in the future. On the plus side it means you can already read the reviews for them, and you can expect reviews for everything else some time early next year.

So thanks again to everyone who sent something over, and I hope all my readers enjoy the rest of their Winter break!

Two Years!

I can't quite believe it but it's exactly two years now since I started this blog, and  113  reviews later and I'm still here writing about sex toys.

I feel a little bad because this anniversary sneaked up on me, and although it's already mid-February this is my inaugural post of 2014, so I haven't planned any giveaways as in previous years. I guess its just taken a little longer to snap back from the Christmas hiatus and get writing again than I was expecting, but I have a few great toys that I've been dying to share with my readers for ages, so I'm determined to review a couple soon.

One thing I did do this week is have a huge clear out of old sex toy packaging, making a little more room around the place for new pieces to be stored. If you follow me on Twitter then you may have seen this photo of just part of what got sent for recycling. I call it the wall of Tantus.

That's about all I can really think to say so it's going to be a short update this year. Thanks to everyone who reads my blog and/or leaves comments, and makes what I do seem worthwhile, and thanks to all the companies who've supported what I do over the past 12 months by sending over products. Here's to another year!

Tantus Duke

So, it's finally time for my first review of 2014, albeit with a quarter of the year behind me already, but unfortunately sometimes blogging ends up taking a backseat when there's a competition for one's time. I'm making a start on my pile of Tantus Christmas goodies by taking a look at the gorgeous Duke, one of Tantus's newest dildos.

You can get the lowdown after the jump!

For those of you who are well acquainted with Tantus products, you'll probably spot that there's something rather familar about the Duke, and that's because the Duke is a reinvented version of one of my favourite Tantus dildos, the Raptor. If you were to take the Raptor and strip away the balls, make the shaft a little straighter, and tuck a bullet hole into the base, then the Duke is what you would be left with, and it's quite a clever move on the part of Tantus because it takes one highly successful aspect - namely that bulbous head shape - and repackages it in a way so as to appeal to people who maybe weren't so keen on the idea of the balls, or who would have liked the option to add in a little vibration to the mix.

Like with the Raptor, one of the first things which drew me to the Duke, aside from the design, was this stunning new colour that Tantus have introduced. They're calling it "peacock" which sounds rather elegant, and almost regal when paired with the title Duke, and it's this deep pearlescent teal that shimmers as it catches the light. It is also available in a more traditional purple tone if that's more to your liking, but I'm predicting that few will eschew the unique peacock in favour of it.

On the whole the Duke is around 7 1/4" long, and of that you can actually insert 6 5/8", so it is a good-sized dildo, and while it's a little smaller than the Raptor overall you do get over 1 1/2" of extra insertable length. Around the widest point of the head the circumference measures an impressive 6 1/4", so it's nice and thick, and then the shaft narrows down to a more modest 5 1/8" around the middle. The base of the dildo is 2 3/4" wide and 5/8" thick, giving it a nice stable footing and making it compatible with a stand O-ring harness if desired.

Like all Tantus products the Duke is made from 100% platinum silicone; my all time favourite sex toy material. It's completely non-porous, odourless, and body safe, so you can feel confident putting it inside your body, and you can also sterilise it and share it with a partner. The silicone is Tantus's regular formulation, so it's a little on firm side, but with just enough give in the surface if you squeeze it gently. As is becoming increasingly common in Tantus's phallic dildos as of late, the Duke features a dual finish to the silicone, with a smooth glossy head and a matte velvety shaft. It's one of those fairly minor details which I happen to really like as it indicates that someone's put some extra thought into the design.

The production quality of the Duke is impeccable; something which I've learnt to expect from Tantus. There are no mould lines anywhere, nor any defects in the surface, so I really couldn't complain about a thing even on my most nitpicky day.

When it comes to using the Duke it's one of those toys where you'll probably need something to warm up with first, rather than diving right in, unless you're feeling especially limber that day. The head is very large and rounded, with quite a rapid taper, so the best way to tackle it is to prepare yourself first with something more gradual. It is possible to to insert it without the aid of another toy if you've had prior experience with something of this size, but it's going to be a slower process and require more patience, as trying to force it will only aggravate the sphincter. It probably goes without saying but the Duke isn't a beginner's toy and is best tackled by people who comfortably know their way around a dildo or two.

With preparations taken care of, and plenty of water-based lubricant applied, the Duke is actually a very comfortable dildo to insert. The smooth glossy head glides seamlessly through the sphincter as you feel it rapidly expand, and the give in the surface is enough to cushion any pressure in the process. Once you reach the widest point you feel a slight bump or "pop" as you pass over the ridge of the corona, then slowly as you insert the shaft further you feel it begin to narrow, and the sphincter goes from being stretched to its maximum to being able to relax a little, which is quite a welcome sensation. With the dildo inside you there's this wonderful combination of feelings; the large rounded head feels satisfyingly filling at every depth, but the thinner shaft doesn't place too much tension on the sphincter or leave it feeling overly stretched, so you get the best aspects of both a larger and smaller dildo rolled into one.

My favourite way to enjoy the Duke has to be by squatting over it and using it in a riding fashion, and here the broad base gives the dildo a nice amount of stability, allowing you to use it without holding it in place, with no fear of it suddenly toppling over. Because it's not quite as tall as the Raptor you do have to squat a little lower to use it,  but it's pretty much a standard dildo size so it's not really an issue, and there's always the option to place a pillow or such underneath. Overall it really is a fantastic dildo for thrusting with; the slightly thinner shaft increases the comfort factor and reduces friction, while allowing for a little more manoeuvrability, and the matte surface provides a nice amount of sensation with each stroke. Because it does have more insertable length you can get the Duke deeper than the Raptor, which is a bonus for many people, but you do lose that figurative 'safety net' of having the balls, so you want to be careful not to vigourously thrust deeper than you were intending to.

One thing I especially love about the Duke is how good it is for prostate stimulation. That big head is nothing short of incredible; the size, the shape, the firmness of it, somehow it all comes together so that with every thrust it rubs back and forth across the prostate to the maximum effect, delivering waves of pleasure. In this regard it completely matches the performance of the Raptor and doesn't lose anything in the process of making slight design changes. All the features still complement each other and ensure that the Duke's performance remains exemplary in terms of prostate stimulation, even down to that "wow" I experience with the Raptor.

Like many Tantus toys the Duke does come with a vibrating bullet which can be inserted into a hole in the base. If you know me then you'll be aware that I'm not especially crazy about this feature and tend to prefer to use a dildo just as a dildo, but it is quite nice to have the option there, and you can always use the bullet separately if you don't want it inside the toy. The bullet itself is almost identical to the RO-80mm from Rocks Off, so that review is the best place to go to get a full idea about the intensity of it. It's pretty simple to fit into the bullet hole in the Duke, and thanks to some internal ribbing within the hole which acts to prevent a vacuum from being formed, it's also removed relatively easy. My general problem with toys with bullet holes is that the hole is in the base, and you want the vibrations down at the tip, but they simply don't travel that well through inches of thick silicone, so I just don't find it worthwhile, but that's very much a personal thing.

Overall I have to say that I'm very impressed by the Duke, and now I'm going to hard pressed to choose between using the Duke or the Raptor next time I go to grab something from my toy drawer. Without hesitation I would recommend the Duke to anyone who likes their dildos a little on the thicker side, and who loves intense prostate stimulation.

The Duke is available directly from Tantus and from Lovehoney.

Give Lube Oral Pleasure Gels.

Recently one of my favourite lubrication companies, Give Lube - makers of the fantastic Premium Aqua Gel and Silicone+, sent me a couple of samples of their all new Oral Pleasure Gels, and you can find out what I thought of them after the jump!

The Oral Pleasure Gels are a new concept from Give Lube, designed to add a little extra flavour to oral sex, be it with a male or female partner. It's the sort of thing you can use just for a bit of fun, or even to disguise your partner's natural taste if you're not so keen on it.

The Gels are available in two different flavours, Raspberry Kiss and Cheeky Cherry, and come in nice big 100ml bottles with tasteful packaging.

I don't have a great deal of experience with flavoured lube, aside from the odd sachet I've picked up here and there, but I was honestly blown away by how the Oral Pleasure Gel tastes. It doesn't taste anything like how you might imagine a flavoured lube to; there's nothing artificial about it nor any strange undertones or aftertaste. It just tastes like a really high quality fruit syrup that you might pick up to pour over your ice cream in the summer. It has this deep sweet flavour to it that's very prominent, rather than just an after thought, and it's accompanied by this delightful aroma that emanates from the bottle as soon as you pop the cap, giving you a treat for all your senses. I never thought I'd describe a lube as being "moreish" but honestly it is, and that can really only mean good things for the person whose bodyparts you're slathering it over, after all no one ever asked for less time to be spent performing oral sex on them.

Of the two flavours the Raspberry Kiss is my favourite, but that's simply because raspberry is my favourite fruit flavour in general, and the Pleasure Gel replicates that unmistakably. The Cheeky Cherry is the slightly less sweet of the two, and has that familiar cherry tang to it, rather reminding me of the cherry sweets you get in packs of Haribo.

The gels are moderately thick, allowing you to give your partner a good coating with it, rather than it being too runny and dripping down the shaft and congregating in the public hair, so it's going to stay in the places you most want to suck and lick it of off. In terms of it being a lube it actually functions really well in that regard too, which is perfect if you want to give your mouth a little rest and stimulate your partner by hand for a while. It feels really smooth and slippery and is quite long-lasting, provided you don't get too enthusiastic during the oral stage and devour it all. The only time it starts to get sticky is if you leave it on the skin for too long and it begins to dry, but realistically I can't see that happening because it tastes too good to waste any.

In keeping with Give Lube's philosophy of creating high quality safe products the Oral Pleasure Gels are paraben-free, dermatologically tested, CE marked, and of a medical quality. They're as natural as possible and contain no superfluous ingredients. One thing they do contain is glycerin, but this is not the same as sugar, so it's perfectly safe to use with female anatomy without any risk of sugar-induced infections. Personally it's not something that I'd use primarily for penetrative sex, just because it seems like a waste to use something flavoured where you can't taste it, and because of that slight stickiness that develops in the later stages. If you're going straight from oral to penetration then there's no need to wash it off, and you can just top up with some Premium Aqua Gel or Silicone+, of course if you're in a pinch and you've run out of both of those then the Pleasure Gel is a fine alternative.

I always like to mention that Give Lube is a local British company, based in Bristol. Personally I'm very into localism, and I try to support companies as close to home as much as possible, and with such a fantastic range of products as Give Lube you really can feel good about doing so. So many of our sex toys and lubricants originate in the United States, so it's nice to get behind people looking to pioneer something in the U.K.

Overall I have to say that I'm a big fan of these new Oral Pleasure Gels, and if I had to recommend one flavoured lube to someone then this would be my choice. I honestly can't wait to see what the guys from Give Lube come up with next, because so far everything they do seems to be a winner. I have to thank them for sending me the free samples too, even though I took longer to review them than I would have liked.

You can buy the Oral Pleasure Gels from SexToys.co.uk in both Raspberry Kiss and Cheeky Cherry.

Toy With Me Tuesday

Toy with me TuesdayRecently there was this whole "Cock in a Sock" trend going around, where hunky men were posting photos on the social networking site of their choice, wearing nothing but a simple sock to hide their modesty. Ostensibly it's all in aid of raising awareness for male cancers, and after witnessing it all I decided it might be fun to pop a red gym sock atop my Dolph Lambert dildo and snap a quick pic, and then I promptly did nothing with the photo. I realised it's been a while since I've done TWMT, so what better reason is there to finally put this image to good use? Oh, and incidentally, this is the photo Pinterest took down for moral panic.

Tantus Plunge Paddle

$

Last October I reviewed my first ever paddle, the Wham Bam, and then over Christmas Tantus kindly decided to send me another one, the all new Plunge Paddle, so it's time to take a look and see how the two compare.

Tantus currently offers a range of five different paddles, with the Plunge being the latest addition, and they all come in varying shapes and sizes depending on your preference. Last time I rather blindly picked the Wham Bam, having no previous experience with paddles whatsoever, and was suitably impressed.

The Plunge has a rather more traditional shape for a paddle, at least on the surface, but it still does remind me of a kitchen utensil with its broad flat head, and I could imagine someone flipping pancakes with it on Shrove Tuesday. Where the Plunge differs from the others in this range is in the handle, which has cleverly been sculpted so as to be insertable. Can I hear you say dual functionality?

In terms of dimensions the Plunge measures 13" in total length, with 6 1/4" of that being paddle, and the remainder handle. What's interesting, to me as least, is that the paddle is perfectly balanced like a well-made sword; If you place your finger directly under the point where the Tantus logo is embossed at the top of the handle, and let the paddle rest there, then it sits in perfect equilibrium with neither side outweighing the other. I'd suspect that, much like with a sword, this balance will be beneficial when it comes to swinging it. The rectangular surface of the paddle is smooth and 3 1/8" wide, and it measures 1/4" thick. The handle has a circumference of 3 3/4" which fits nicely into the hand when you're holding it, and enables a firm grip. It features a slightly curved design and a bulbous tip as part of its suitability for insertion, and in all about 5 1/2" are usable for this purpose.

As is Tantus's signature the Plunge Paddle is made from silicone, a material that you don't often see from other manufacturers of BDSM-related equipment. One of the first things you'll notice about the paddle is that it does feel lovely; it has this soft velvety finish to the surface, and when you clutch it in your hand it aids with the level of grip, negating any fear that it may go flying from your grasp mid swing. The other thing you'll notice is that there's a certain floppiness to the silicone, but this is much less pronounced than in the Wham Bam; if you hold it upright it still manages to maintain its shape without falling over to one side, but a gentle wiggle of your wrist will be enough to start it swaying back and forth, and this enough to give it some of those unique properties during use that a more solid paddle would not exhibit. Of course silicone is a very safe and hygienic material, and that's especially important with this particular paddle because of its insertable nature. It's a non-porous material so it can be completely sterilised between uses and shared with a partner, and another benefit is that it's completely odourless, so you needn't worry unpleasant plasticy-scents spoiling your play session. All in all the choice of material makes in a very durable and low-maintenance product.

The construction of the Plunge Paddle is top-notch, just like I'd expect from Tantus, so there's not a whole to say on the subject. One thing I will point out is that there's a mould line running around the edge of the paddle, something which is unavoidable in the production of an item of this design, and something which ordinarily wouldn't be of concern. The only potential issue that comes into play is with regard to the insertable handle, because the mould line is fairly raised and can be felt easily by the fingers, so ideally I would have preferred that the seam be a little more subtle. Aside from that there are no pits, cracks, or defects in the surface which might otherwise affect your enjoyment of the paddle.

So onto the use, and I'll start first by considering how it performs its primary function, i.e. as a paddle. Paddles are all about inflicting pain, and as the red marks currently adorning my buttocks can attest to, it certainly fulfils that remit. I found that the Plunge was a little easier to control than the Wham Bam due to its increased rigidity, and without that extra level of floppiness you get a perfect spank every time. Whereas the Wham Bam requires more of a whipping action to land the perfect blow, the Plunge needs no more than a simple flick of the wrist. Because of the broad surface of the paddle it's more akin to smack with an open palm, and you still get a real sting across the flesh when it makes impact. I'd say that for most levels of use you can inflict the same amount of pain with the Plunge as with the Wham Bam, and it's only when it comes to real skin-blistering punishment that you'd need to go for the Wham Bam instead. The upside is that you're less likely to inflict too much pain with the Plunge than you are with the Wham Bam. The Plunge has a wide surface area, so the pain it causes tends to be proportionate to the force used, whereas with the Wham Bam all the force tends to be concentrated in a smaller area, and a slightly over-enthusiastic and well-timed whipping action can significantly ramp up the level of pain more than you might have been expecting. For low levels of pain the Plunge works very nicely as well, so you can start out slowly with a few gentle taps and steadily ramp it up to whatever best suits you or your partner.  Although paddles are typically thought of as equipment for use on the buttocks, you can do a little more with the Plunge, such as using it to gently strike the penis, and deliver that stinging sensation to the underside of the head. In this regard it's not quite as versatile as the Wham Bam, but it's still worth experimenting with.

In terms of insertion the paddle works well enough, but I wasn't blown away. Because the handle isn't too thick it's relatively easy to insert, even with the slightly bulbous tip, so it's perfectly suited to someone with little to no prior anal experience. The silicone is quite firm in the paddle, more so than the standard variety that Tantus uses for its dildos and butt plugs, so there's not really any perceptible give in the material to cushion the insertion. Nevertheless, due to the size of the handle it's still very comfortable to insert, and the seams that I mentioned at the start of the review can't be felt at all, but it's worth taking it slowly the first few times if you're not familiar with firmer materials. Because of the overall design of the handle it's not really something which you'd thrust with like a normal dildo - at least I found it ineffective in this manner because I typically prefer something thicker - but rather it's better suited to being used to massage the prostate by angling the bulbous tip into the gland, in the manner of the Metal Worx Curve or similar. In this regard it is fairly effective and feels quite pleasurable but it can be somewhat awkward to manage it by yourself. I imagine that you'd have far more success when using it with a partner. The surface of the silicone has a little drag to it due to the matte finish, but when it's sufficiently lubed up you don't really notice this aspect and it glides back and forth through the sphincter quite smoothly. One aspect of the handle is that it does have a hole right through the end, and while this doesn't have any impact on how it feels or performs, it does tend to fill up with fluids when you remove it, so you'll want to pay extra attention to this area when cleaning it afterwards.

When you're done with the Plunge you can hang it up somewhere thanks to the aforementioned hole in the handle. This can be a convenient feature if you don't have anywhere else earmarked for paddle storage. It doesn't come with much packaging other than a simple and sufficient polythene bag, so I'm thinking a good place might be in the wardrobe on the hook next to the shoehorn.

So how would I rate the Plunge Paddle after all of this? Well considering that this is only my second experience with a paddle I think I'm actually starting to get into this whole thing and enjoying the pleasurable side of pain. As a paddle the Plunge is fantastic; really well made, easy to hold, easy to use, easy to clean, and stings oh so satisfyingly. The handle might not operate as the best dildo in the world if you were considering it as a standalone product, but as an added extra I think it's a great option to have, and I can definitely see it getting some use during couple's play. Overall the Plunge Paddle is a real treat and I'm happy to have it in my collection. I'd recommend it just as much as the Wham Bam, depending on what you're looking for.

The Plunge Paddle is available directly from Tantus.

Apparently if there's one thing more than any other that I just can't get enough of then it's these realistic dildos from Fleshjack, because it's about to be that time again. Here is my seventh review of one of these toys, and this time the penis in question belongs to one of Belami Online's few American actors, Mick Lovell.

Mick Lovell is tall, athletic, baby-faced, and well hung, yet if I'm honest he probably doesn't have the most attractive cock I've ever seen in porn, and typically aesthetics are what would draw me to a dildo of this sort. What he does have, though, is an interestingly-shaped penis, and after seeing it thrusting vigorously in and out of various perky European bums in countless porn videos, it was enough for me to really wonder how it must feel to be on the receiving end of that. One handy sale later and I'm the proud owner of this limb-like piece of male anatomy.

The Mick Lovell is easily one of the bigger dildos that Fleshjack makes, and pretty much in line with what you'd expect from a porn star. The dildo has a total length of 7 3/4", and of that a maximum of 6 1/2" are actually usable for insertion. The thickness of the dildo varies a fair amount throughout, starting at only 5" just below the head. Around the middle of the shaft the girth comes in at an impressive 6 1/4", and it maintains this circumference down to the base despite some variations in shape along the way.

The dildo is like a towering obelisk of a sex toy, starting off with a reasonably-sized head which somehow still manages to appear too small for the gargantuan shaft it sits atop. It's a fairly nice looking head with a deep groove by the meatus (the opening into the urethra) which almost clefts the underside of the glans in two, but it does have a slight leathery texture to it which detracts from the appearance. The shaft directly below the head is quite narrow, making the coronal ridge appear rather pronounced on all sides, projecting out as much as 3/16" in places, and there is some detailing in the immediate vicinity, such as frenulum remnants on the underside and a few raised veins. From its modest beginnings the shaft steadily continues to increase in size with an even taper, broadening out like a cone until it reaches the widest point at the very middle of the shaft, after which it begins to narrow again slightly as the remainder of the length makes its way down towards the balls. What's interesting about the shaft is how much the shape changes depending on the angle from which you're looking at it, because this broad middle section is only apparent when you're looking at the dildo from the front or back, and when viewed from either side it appears that the widest point is right down at the base where the shaft sprouts from the balls. This is because the shaft has a very irregular cross-section; near to the base the third column of erectile tissue is very prominent, giving the dildo a width measurement of 2" from left to right and 2" from front to back, but by the time you reach the middle of the dildo this central column has all but disappeared, reducing the front to back measurement to only 1 3/4", while the left to right measurement grows to 2 1/4". It's like going from an almost circular cross-section at the base to a wide flat oval in middle, which then continues as a narrowing oval up towards the head. I think of it almost like a cobra with its hood expanded, the way the middle is so broad and flat below the head and the whole shaft curves forwards ever so slightly, but I'll spare you a trouser-snake joke. At the very base of the shaft is an impressive-looking pair of large and asymmetric balls. The right testicle is notably much larger than the left, and it hangs lower and further away from the shaft, giving it slightly more depth in the dildo too. On the whole it's a slightly odd-looking dildo, more attractive from some angles than others, and perhaps the least pretty of the seven I own. I suppose if I were more of a Mick Lovell fan than I actually am then I might feel otherwise about it, but from a completely objective standpoint it doesn't turn me on considerably by itself. I'm sure that were he my favourite porn star then I'd feel differently about it, as the thought of owning a part of someone you really like is a strong part of the appeal of these toys, but I certainly wouldn't kick its owner out of bed had I ever the opportunity to get my hands on the real deal.

The one thing which keeps bringing me back to Fleshjack dildos time and time again is their stunning realism and attention to detail, and naturally the Mick Lovell is no different in this regard. It is incredibly life-like both to look at and to hold in your hands, in a way which other 'realistic' dildos seldom are, so Fleshjack clearly deserves kudos for whatever techniques they developed to achieve this. Were it not for the fact that it's disembodied then it could more than easily be mistaken for a real body part, if someone were to lay eyes upon it inside a room where the lights were dimmed. There's so much detail to pour over on it if you have the time, because even the most minute aspect is captured exquisitely, from the grain of the skin, to the small veins along the surface of the shaft, and even every wrinkle and hair follicle on the scrotum.

The dildo is manufactured from 100% platinum silicone in a pale flesh-tone. As the Bel Ami range is relatively new all the dildos are made from the softer silicone, like with the Dolph Lambert and Kevin Warhol models which I reviewed, and I find this exhibits quite similar properties to the silicone used in the Tantus Pack 'n' Play line. It's a really lovely material to squeeze as it has a lot of give in the surface, and it's easy to bend back and forth, and even twist or stretch slightly. As always the quality of construction is absolutely impeccable, and I've examined the dildo with all five senses without being able to find a single flaw in it to complain about, nor a mould-line in sight.

When it comes to using the dildo the initial insertion is a mostly effortless experience thanks to the nice tapered head and its modest size, but it quickly becomes apparent that the pronounced nature of the coronal ridge is going to cause some quite intense feelings against the sphincter. Normally the soft silicone is quite gentle and comfortable, cushioning things as the toy enters the body, but here it's not quite enough to accommodate the shape, and you wish for a softer Vixen dual-density coating as it almost scrapes its way through. Once you are over the corona you feel a slight bump of relief as the head pops completely inside, and because the top of the shaft is narrower than the head itself it gives you a place to pause briefly before going further. The taper of the shaft is quite gentle, allowing you to go at a steady pace, slowly stretching yourself out to what is quite a significant thickness at the widest point. Due to the high level of realism in the dildo all the minute detail of the skin and veins that's captured in the surface creates a noticeable level of texture, which in turn causes a degree of drag. In the stretching phase you really do feel every little bit of this texture and drag, so it doesn't glide in completely smoothly, and it's necessary to have a thicker anal lube to help with this. As the dildo goes deeper the thickness becomes more and more apparent and it feels like it's going to keep on getting wider forever, but at the same time something feels slightly wrong about the way that it's stretching you out. The issue actually comes down to the shape of the dildo, and that broad flat central section. The anus itself is actually an oval, but it's a tall thin oval rather than a short wide oval, so when you try to insert the dildo it stretches out the sphincter too much in the wrong direction. The only way to really get around this fact and make things feel more comfortable is to rotate the dildo by 90 degrees and insert it sideways, which isn't really ideal.

You have a couple of options of how you can choose to use the dildo, questions of orientation aside. The balls at the base make a convenient handle to grab onto and manually thrust with, but their size and broad footprint also give the dildo a low centre of gravity, so you can stand it upright somewhere and ride it without it toppling over. Because the dildo has a thick shaft, without too much curve, it has enough structural integrity to allow you to squat over it and insert it without having to guide the tip in by hand. This is quite useful in case you ever get too energetic during play and slip off the end, as you can just drop back down again and have it inside you without fussing around. Some of the advantages of the dildo come in terms of how much you can insert. It's a little bit longer than the average rectum, but because of the narrower tip it makes it easier to get it deeper into the body if you're determined to try and use every last inch, and the flexible silicone will help curve around in the body to a degree too, further aiding the process. Because the tip of the dildo is quite nice and soft you can afford to be fairly rough when messing around with it, without worrying about internal discomfort, and a vigorous thrusting session isn't likely to result in you experiencing an unpleasant poking feeling inside.

Actually thrusting with the dildo wasn't a terribly pleasurable experience for me, no matter what technique or orientation I tried with it. Despite having experience in the past with toys larger than this, the wide middle section always left the sphincter feeling overly stretched with every thrust, and pretty much discouraged me from wanting to keep repeating the motion. Even after the sphincter had relaxed enough to allow thrusting the texture of the surface still aggravated the soft tissues around the muscle. The other issue was that the section that was inside me didn't seem to be doing anything. The slight curve, the ridge on the head, none of it was having any effect on my prostate, so I was failing to get any enjoyment out of the experience. The shape of the toy places the narrowest part inside the body and the widest point further out where the sphincter is, which is actually the reverse of what I find works best. Compare it to the fantastic Tantus Duke which has the opposite arrangement and is one of my favourite toys. It feels a little strange criticising the design of this toy because it wasn't really designed at all, it was copied from nature, but this is one penis which really should never have been made into a dildo, at least not after someone tested out the first prototype. It's sort of a shame really because I've yet to be disappointed by anything in the Fleshjack range (especially something coming from a cute guy like Mick), but if it's taught me anything it's that I prefer a more traditional penis shape, with a big bulbous head and a uniformly thick shaft. In fact now that I think about it, this comes close to being as bad as the shape of the awful James Deen dildo I tried a while back. I can hardly stress enough how much I did not like using this dildo.

The dildo comes packaged inside a cardboard box, but something a little more than just an ordinary box. The box is black for the most part, and adorned with various brand logos and images of Mick holding his dildo, but the front of the box is actually a door which can be opened. The flap is held down with velcro, but once opened you can see the contents of the box inside clearly through a plastic window. The dildo is held securely inside the box by a plastic tray which is moulded to the shape of it. On the whole the packaging is nice and it's perfectly suited to storing the dildo in long term.

Overall I'd have to say that this is probably the first dildo from Fleshjack that I wouldn't recommend. When it comes to making highly-detailed realistic dildos Fleshjack really are the masters, and this is undoubtedly up their usual standards, but the problem just appears to be the source material. Unfortunately Mick Lovell's penis just isn't a very comfortable shape to ride when reproduced in silicone, and every time I've tried it I've been disappointed. There are simply better toys out there in terms of sensation, rather than wasting your time and money on this one. Unless you're a die hard fan of Mick who wants to see and feel his dick up close (and store it in a display case, because using it will wreck any fantasy), then I'd suggest you steer clear and try one of the other six of these that I've reviewed and would recommend over this.

The Mick Lovell dildo is available at the lowest price in the UK from Esmale, where you can get an extra 10% off when you use the code 'INCEND10' and the checkout.

Alternatively you can purchase it directly from Fleshjack, along with the other Bel Ami boys:

ElectraStim Flick Duo EM80-E

This month the lovely Hella from ElectraStim (whose name I find myself wanting to yell out in the manner of Stanley Kowalski from Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire") got in touch with me and asked if I'd care to review one of their products, and of course I jumped at the chance, never being one to turn down the opportunity for a new experience.

Electro-stimulation devices have been something that I've been aware of for a while, but up until now I've never tried one because they've always seemed to be something of a niche product in a market dominated by all things vibrating. Without wanting to give away too much too soon, now that I've tried one I have to say that that's a notion which really needs to change.

ElectraStim kits come in a variety of different configurations and with different accessories, all depending on your preferences and budget. The bundle I was sent contained all the bits and pieces shown in the image above, including the Flick Duo base unit, four conductive adhesive pads, and two conductive rubber cock loops which are usually sold separately. I'll start with an overview of the unit itself, then go into detail about how it performs with the pads and loops

The Flick Duo is a compact, portable, rechargeable ElectraStim unit, and all of those qualities came as a complete surprise to me. For some reason when I had envisioned the equipment for this type of play, the picture I had in my mind was of a big bulky unit which plugged into the mains, the likes of which you'd use at school for building circuits, rather than something which comes packed up in a sleek black presentation box, with its own cloth pouch, and is charged by USB. The unit itself has a small lightweight profile, and incorporates a sleek, retro, and almost industrial design which feels refreshingly authentic. Rather than being overly modernist and adopting some nondescript white shell, the EM80 is black and grey with shiny metallic accents, features red and orange glowing LCD displays, alongside orange and green LEDs, and it has real buttons which make a satisfying click when you push them. In all it wouldn't look out of place as part of a control panel on the original 1960s starship Enterprise, and I like that. Even the cables for the accessories have red and black plugs and wires, giving it that real feeling of electrical equipment.

The Flick Duo is a dual-channel device, which in layman's terms means that you can connect two different accessories to it simultaneously and control them independently via the buttons on either side of the panel. There are some accessories, however, which require the use of both channels at once, but they won't be the subject of this review. Each channel has 25 different intensity settings which can be adjusted incrementally using the up and down arrows, and which is indicated by a number in a small display located above the buttons. These range from a mild tingling down at setting 1, to quite a powerful jolt at 25, meaning you can use the unit for pleasure, but also pain in a BDSM scenario if desired. In addition to the 25 intensity settings there are 8 different patterns to choose from during use, with 1 being a constant flow of electricity, and 2-8 being a selection of pulses occurring at differing speeds and intervals. These are cycled through using a button in the centre of the panel, and as well as a small display indicating which pattern number is currently selected, 2 orange LEDs flash in time with the pulses to give a visual indication of what's happening.

The unit requires charging prior to use and a full charge should last for 3 hours. I found that the initial charge was quite fast, taking less than 2 hours in total, and handily there is an LED on the display which goes out as soon as the charge is complete.

The other feature of the Flick Duo which is included in the name is the "flick" function. If you hold down the pattern select button on the device you can put it into flick mode, which makes the whole unit motion sensitive. Once you've set the power level for the channel(s) you're using, a flick of the wrist whilst holding the unit will cause a brief spike in intensity. The harder you shake it the stronger the jolt will be, and a little glowing indicator in middle flashes depending on how much force you use. This is a bit of a fun feature, but not one I really use much myself. I imagine it would be more interesting in conjunction with a partner, and taking it in turns to give each other little jolts.

Adhesive Pads
The adhesive pads which come with the EM80 kit will look immediately familiar to anyone who's ever had an ECG in hospital, or owned a TENS machine. You get four in total and they're used in pairs, one pair for each channel of the base unit, though in my experience one pair at a time is probably enough when you're using the device by yourself. The pads all come with a clear plastic backing which is used to protect the sticky surface from dust when they're not in use, as they're completely reusable provided you take a reasonable amount of care with them. Once you peel off the plastic backing you'll realise that the surface is incredibly sticky, and this helps them to adhere very firmly to wherever on the body you attach them. For me the obvious place to attach the pads is along the perineum, though it's worth mentioning that it's preferable to have shaved the area first, else you're in for some uncomfortable hair pulling when you try to remove the sticky pads afterwards. Alternatively you could try attaching them to either side of the head of the penis, or wherever you find sufficient room to place them along the shaft. Once you have the pads in place you need to connect them to one of the supplied wires. The red end goes on one pad and the black on the other, then you plug it into the base unit and you're good to go.

When you turn on the unit and set it to the 1st intensity you begin to experience a mild tingling all over the skin beneath the pad, and then as you increase the power it starts to subtly change. The tingling increases, but then it becomes peripheral, secondary to some other sensation emanating from the pad. The interesting thing about the pads is that they have to deliver the strongest sensation that I've felt from the accessories I've tried, such as the loops that I'll discuss below. They're very conductive, and they have a wide surface area, so they really transmit the electric current into the tissue, and the impact can be felt significantly. The first time you try it you're liable to be quite amazed by what you feel, because there's just this sensation that's happening and it's so unique that it's almost indescribable. It's like a feeling of some unknown force being applied within the body. It's strange, and it's different, but it's good, it's really good. Whatever this force is, it's gripping you around the perineum, almost feeling as though pressure is being applied for a perineum massage, yet it's travelling deeper into the pelvic floor muscles. It's partly sexual, but there's also something relaxing and therapeutic about it, as if it puts your body at ease. I feel as though I could happily walk around all day experiencing it, but once you pair it with masturbation that's where you really feel its effects. When you're slowly edging and you feel your body contract the pelvic floor muscles in response, having that sensation of the ElectraStim on top just intensifies it and makes it feel all the better. It's like supercharging your own body in preparation for an explosive orgasm.

ElectraLoops
The ElectraLoops are probably one of my favourite accessories to use with the ElectraStim device. In essence they're just a pair of a adjustable cock rings, the sort of which I've reviewed in the past, with the only difference being that they're made from a highly conductive rubber. I know, I wasn't aware that such a material existed either. Each loop consists of a hollow rubber tube which is curved around and secured together using a plastic toggle, allowing you to adjust the size of the loop by sliding it up and down. The loops come in a pair and this is how they need to be used, though exactly where you place them is a matter of preference. You can situate one around the base of the shaft behind the testicles, one around the testicles alone, one around the base of the shaft in front of the testicles, or one just behind the head of the penis, and mixing and matching with different combinations of these is part of the fun of discovering what works best for you. With the help of my Dolph Lambert stunt cock I've demonstrated a possible configuration in the photo to the right. Before putting on the loops it's recommended that you first loosen them and apply a little conductive gel to the inside of them, then use the plastic toggle to secure them snugly once they're in place. To connect the loops to the ElectraStim unit you need only one of the cables, and to use one of the channels. Each loop has two open ends in the rubber tubing, but you need to use only one of these in each. You plug the red cable into one end of one loop, and the black cable into one end of the other loop. If you make the mistake of plugging both cables into one loop then it simply won't do anything.

When you turn on the device at first you start to get that mild tingling feeling that I described earlier, but as you up the intensity the sensation stays very much in the realm of tingling. The feeling from the loops is quite different to that from the pads, and it's almost comparable to a vibrating sensation being felt in the surface of the skin, and it's quite pleasurable. The sensations can vary somewhat depending on whereabouts on the penis you place the loops. You'll find that you can only really detect the sensations coming from the loop touching the more sensitive parts of skin. For example, if you place one loop at the base of the shaft, and one below the head, then you'll feel a lot of tingling in the delicate mucous membranes of the head and inner foreskin, but little to nothing down at the base. This makes it all the more interesting to play around with the loop positions. If you place two loops near to each other at the base of the shaft then you can feel a tingling sensation moving along the full length of the penis towards the tip. It seems to travel along the urethra, presumably the electricity being conducted by the slight moisture within it, though at other times I've adjusted the loops slightly and the electricity has seemed to take another route, possibly along a vein or nerve, and again completely changing the feeling. Having the loops placed further down the shaft makes it easier to masturbate whilst using the ElectraStim, and that feels quite satisfying as it adds another layer of sensation to the usual feelings involved when approaching climax, but my favourite method has to be with one of the loops placed below the head and with minimal touching. In this configuration you really get that vibrating sensation below the head, though oddly it seems to concentrate around the corona of the glans, rather than down the frenulum. You can get quite a strong and powerful sensation going if you ramp up the intensity, really mimicking vibrations, though there's limit to how far you can go with this, as set the intensity too high and you start to get a prickling sensation in the skin, almost like pins and needles, which can throw you out of the moment. When you have the setting just right then that sensation alone can feel pretty amazing, though if you were hoping to orgasm from just that then unfortunately it does feel like a little something's missing. All the sensation which is building in the head doesn't seem to go anywhere, which is what would ordinarily happen from sexual stimulation, as after all an orgasm involves more of the body than just the tip of the penis, so you're left wanting for something, which is a convenient segue into my next point.

The advantage of having a selection of accessories is that you can mix and match them, and that brings even more fun. A conductive pad on the perineum and an ElectraLoop beneath the head of the penis has to be the ultimate combination as far as I'm concerned, as you get stimulation in all the key orgasmic regions of the genitalia. The pad provides deep stimulation to the muscles which tense and contract during climax, while the loop delivers surface stimulation to all the sensitive nerve endings around the head of the penis. Using them in tandem almost brought me to the point where I thought I might achieve a handsfree orgasm, which is now the goal I've set my sights on. Having a dual-channel unit means that you can attach more accessories and control the intensity of them independently, so you might choose to attach two pads to the perineum on the left channel and set that to a strong intensity, and connect the pair of ElectraLoops to the right channel and set that lower. Having the freedom to calibrate it so much means that you can tailor the perfect individual experience for you, and set the tolerances to align precisely with your orgasmic response, almost guaranteeing a heightened climax.

The other advantage is when it comes to partner play, though I'm afraid I can only speak hypothetically here. During intercourse it's quite possible for the active partner to wear an ElectraLoop around the base of his penis, while the receptive partner has a conductive pad affixed to a buttock etc, allowing the current to flow through both bodies when they touch.

One of the best features of the Flick Duo is something which I mentioned very briefly at the start, and that has to be the selection of different patterns available to be activated during use. The constant sensation of the electricity feels good by itself, but no matter what accessories you're using with the unit, it feels better when there are patterns involved. The available patterns range from quite slow pulses to rather rapid ones, ones which are rhythmic and others more erratic, and ones which follow a complex sequence of speeding up and slowing down. Whether you're stimulating the perineum or the penis, or both at once, the patterns make it all the more interesting. The lulls in between titillate you as you wait for the next surge of sensation, and when it hits at just the right moment your muscles reflexively contract in response. In the perineum region it's especially effective because the throbbing sensation of the pulses is like a deep tissue massage reaching in there and rubbing you firmly to maximum effect. In the penis the pulses are more akin to the up/down strokes of masturbation, providing a familiar rhythm and increasing pleasure. It really is a fantastic sensation, and you can keep cycling through the different patterns should you ever become too accustomed to one.

I have to say, I really am a complete convert to this ElectraStim business. There's just nothing out there like it: it's so unique, so different, and frankly so amazing. All I'm thinking about now is that if it feels so great on all of these places on the outside of the body, then imagine how it's going to feel on the inside. It's practically crying out for me to try it out with insertables, and if you're wondering about that too then check back in with my blog next Monday as I'm going to have another special review lined up.

I never thought that this review would be so long, but I think that's testament in itself to how much I like the ElectraStim. Would I recommend it? Most certainly. It's a device which really has to be experienced first hand; until you've felt that flow of power through your groin you won't know what you've been missing.

Thanks to ElectraStim for providing me with the product to review, and if you'd like to buy one then they're available directly from their website, or from SexToys.co.uk where you can also pick up some ElectraLoops.

Make Me a Sex Toy

There comes a point when you've tried as many different sex toys as I have that you start to get a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't, from the shape of things to their functionality, and you begin to wish you could make little changes to the products you already own, or even combine the features of two toys together to create something entirely new.

I thought I might try out a new segment on my blog called "Make Me a Sex Toy", where I cobble together something that I'd like to see in the future, something that I'd put into production if I worked for one of these companies, and here's the first instalment.

Last night during a period of mild insomnia I thought to myself "I wish We-Vibe would make a prostate massager", and then I proceeded to design the entire thing in my mind. I chose We-Vibe because they make a selection of compact, high-quality, and very powerful vibrators, which are exactly the sort of things I look for in a prostate massager, so it would seem to be the ideal region for them to branch out into without too much trouble.

Design
  • The shape of the prostate massager is something which I would co-opt entirely from the Jopen Ego E4. That toy had many shortcomings, but the the inverted-7 or L-shape was by far its stand-out feature. It was a compact size which fit nicely inside the body without poking you anywhere unwanted, yet its bulbous ends applied a firm pressure to both the prostate and the perineum, while the narrow neck made it comfortable to wear long-term without slippage.
  • Similarly my material choice would be the same: a firm hard plastic core with a velvety silicone coating, though you'll notice I opted for a different colour. The rigidity of a plastic core maintains that pressure on the prostate, where something more flexible would not. It increases the ease of insertion, and it better transmits vibrations. The silicone coating makes the toy more hygienic by virtue of being non-porous and sterilisable, and it also contributes to the sense of comfort by having some give in the surface and warming with body heat.
  • The toy would employ a magnetic charging system, primarily because I prefer them, but also because they're easy to use and ensure the waterproof nature of the item. I would locate the contacts on the underside of the toy where they would be completely out of the way during use.
  • The power button would be on the front of the toy where it's easily accessible during use, similar to the placement that Rocks Off use, and to allow you to sit down while wearing the toy without accidentally hitting the button as would occur if it were underneath.
  • The motor would be at the tip of the insertable portion to ensure the full force of the vibrations were inside the body and directed at the prostate. I probably would not bother with a second motor in the perineum arm as I view this as mostly unnecessary and an added cost, not to mention the issues surrounding trying to fit two powerful motors and a battery into such a small device.
Functionality
  • The motor would be identical to the one used in the We-Vibe Salsa/Tango due to it being the most powerful and rumbly vibrator of its size that I've experienced, and thus should be able to deliver the sort of vibrations needed to really have an impact on the prostate.
  • The modes would be the same as in the Salsa/Tango: four incrementally increasing speeds and four different vibration patterns. The ability to adjust the strength of vibrations doesn't require the precision of a sliding scale in a prostate massager, thus discrete levels should more than suffice, and the inclusion of vibration patterns is an absolute must.
  • There would be a single button on the device used to turn it on/off and to cycle through the settings, so as not to clutter the design, and to increase ease of use when pressing a button in a location that can't readily be seen. The button would also allow for locking the device during travel.
I think that really these are all the key points I'd like to see fulfilled in my ideal compact, wearable, prostate massager, and if anyone ever builds something like this then I'd be eager to try it. Is there anything that you'd like to see in your ideal prostate massager?

Throwback Thursday

It had almost slipped my mind, but it was three years ago this month that I decided to be adventurous and buy my first ever dildo, back on the 4th May 2011, so I thought I'd share a photo I took later that year of my original sex toy collection. (click to enlarge)

It's funny because I still remember this scene fondly and how I came to own the individual pieces, and I'll briefly recap the history of each one below.

The first toy I bought was The Tool, for the bargain price of £17, as a way to help me to try out anal penetration for the first time. When I carefully selected it from the vast array of available choices I intended that it would be the only toy I'd ever buy, and I'm happy to say that it did end up ticking every box. The design was discreet, it wasn't too big for a first timer, nor too small that I'd outgrow it, the tapered tip helped with entry, the length allowed for thrusting, and it was made from a hygienic and durable material. I really did love that dildo, to the point that I became an overnight convert to anal play.

Only five days later I put in my second order, spurred on by a limited time 20% discount code that was printed on my receipt, and unfortunately this order proved less successful on the whole. I picked up the Double Bubble Gumdrops butt plug, which turned out to be larger than advertised, and try as I might I just couldn't get the second half into my body due to the steep taper. I also grabbed the Rocks Off Bad Boy, convinced that prostate massage would be the next great step in my exploration of anal play, only to find that the supremely awkward shape was painful and would not fit inside my body in the intended position, and that the vibrations were poor and ineffective. Finally I chose the Rocks Off Blackberry vibrating butt plug, and of the three this was the only one that I really liked, though if you asked me today I wouldn't be in a hurry to recommend it.

Nine days after that I placed order three. I was quite determined to conquer the Double Bubble plug and it became apparent that I would need something to help along the way, so I bought the rather cheap Classic Large plug, and it the end it did its job.

Order four came the following month. I'd recently had the opportunity to try out a Fleshjack and I was impressed enough with it that when I saw an Ice Jack on sale for £35 I jumped at the chance. That was definitely my best purchase since The Tool.

The other two toys in the picture came to me courtesy of the SexToys.co.uk review programme, which I'd discovered and joined shortly after I began shopping with them. July saw the Tulip plug coming my way, beginning a long term love affair with Tantus, and September provided me with the Pierre Fitch Fleshjack dildo. I adored that dildo, perhaps more than a man should feel for an inanimate piece of silicone. The first time I saw it on the website I was actually a little disappointed, because at the time Fleshjack made only three of these dildos, and Pierre Fitch happened to be the one I was least interested in, nevertheless when I received an e-mail saying that I'd been chosen to review it I couldn't have been more excited. The RRP for it was £60, not something I would have willingly paid myself, yet I was getting the opportunity to try it anyway, which filled me with joy. When it arrived it was magnificent; it was my first ever realistic dildo, and because it was modelled on a real person the level of detail was incredible. It instantly became my favourite piece and the jewel in the crown of my collection, eventually inspiring me to collect several more.

In a way it's slightly strange for me to look back on that collection, because I remember how proud I was of it, whilst also feeling that it was slightly excessive to have eight toys. These days I have toys coming out of the woodwork, and it's become a very normalised thing, so it's fun to look back and recall the excitement I felt about it all in the early days. And with that we reach the end of my trip down memory lane.

What's It Made Of?

Like many sex bloggers out there I'm a big advocate of safe, non-toxic, sex toys, and you might have noticed this from the references scattered throughout my reviews and all across Twitter. Thanks to the work of many dedicated sex educators out there, both in the industry and the blogosphere, people are gaining a much greater knowledge about all the different materials that are used in the production of sex toys. There's an increased awareness of those materials that should be avoided altogether, those that are safe for external use but not recommended for insertion, and those which can be sterilised and shared with a partner vs those which cannot. This is a positive thing, but you can only put any of this to use if you're also knowledgeable about precisely what your toys are made of to begin with, and you'd think that that would be as easy to find out as looking the products up on a retailer's website. As I found out today there's some confusion which makes things not quite so simple.

I was researching some products earlier by the Japanese manufacturer Tenga. Now before I go any further I want to stress that Tenga is a brand that I trust, and it is well known that they use only safe materials in their products. The issue I discovered is that many of the places selling Tenga products aren't really sure what they're actually made of, and as such are passing on the wrong information to their customers.

The first product I searched for was the Tenga 3D, because it's something I've never tried and it piqued my curiosity. I wanted to know exactly what it was made of so that I'd have some idea of how it might feel, but I ended up checking out three different major UK stores because each one came up with a different answer. This surprised me because, like many people, I typically rely on the information presented to me on a product page, so I resorted to going straight to Tenga's own website for the answer. Here's how everything stacked up:

Tenga 3D
In this instance the kudos goes to Simply Pleasure for being the only one to get it right, or at least close enough (*to their credit SexToys.co.uk & Lovehoney do both make mention of an 'antibacterial elastomer' buried elsewhere within their product descriptions, but not in the specific material section - as you'll see in the photos at the end - so it's not at all clear). "Ag Antibacterial Elastomer" still sounds like a bit of a mystery in itself, but my understanding is that it's a proprietary material which uses the addition of silver (hence the 'Ag' if you know your periodic table) to give the antibacterial effect. As it's an elastomer it's still going to be porous, so it's best not to share it, and the silver content probably rules it out for the supernatural contingent of MTV's Teen Wolf.

Moving on from the Tenga 3D I remembered that I'd had some problem ascertaining exactly what the interior of the Tenga Flip Holes was made from, back when I reviewed a couple, so again I compared what Tenga had to say on the matter with three major retailers, and again I found disparities:

Tenga Flip Hole
On this occasion none of them came up with the right answer, which is disappointing. The other issue is that two of them are claiming that the material is silicone when it's not. Silicone is a highly praised material in the sex toy world because it's non-porous and therefore can be sterilised and shared with a partner. TPE on the other hand is porous, and while it's a safe material for a masturbator on the whole, there's potential risk involved in sharing it. Tenga, like Fleshjack, instruct you not to share their products, but there's the possibility here of someone with good material knowledge thinking that it's safe to go against that advice, because they're under the impression that it's made of something it's not.

Finally I thought I'd check out the Tenga Eggs, and you can probably guess my findings already:

Tenga Eggs
Simply Pleasure was the only one to come close to the right answer again, so right now they're in the lead with 2/3 correct.

I have to say that I really don't know what it is about Tenga products that makes it so difficult for retailers to list their materials correctly. Right now we're sitting on an accuracy rate of 2.5/9, which isn't great, and I don't know what I'd find if I were to check out more products in the Tenga range, or expand my selection of websites to include international ones. What we have learnt today though is that if you want a definitive answer on what a toy's made from, check with the manufacturer directly, or consult a reviewer who's gone the extra mile and done the research for you.

I've included a few screengrabs below of the Tenga 3D results just to illustrate the point, because hopefully the sites in question will amend their information soon.

ElectraStim Silicone Noir Sirius

Last week I reviewed my first ever ElectraStim product, the Flick Duo, but really that was just a precursor to today's review. This Monday ElectraStim have launched their brand new Silicone Noir range of attachments, and to mark this event they sent me the Sirius prostate massager to review for them.

If you don't know much about ElectraStim devices then it's worth reading last week's review to get some background information first, as it's pretty comprehensive and I'm probably going to end up referencing it a lot, rather than going back over the same details here. If you're already up to speed then catch the review after the jump!

The Sirius is - as the name of the collection suggests - unsurprisingly made of silicone, which leads to another "really, I didn't know that could conduct electricity?" moment, and also a chance to gush about my favourite sex toy material mere sentences into this review. I'm quite excited about the idea of silicone electrosex toys, because it offers a far less rigid alternative to the traditional metal probes, but you still get all the benefits of a material that's odourless, non-porous, completely body-safe, and that can be sterilised and shared with a partner. It could be quite an important leap forward for this sort of play, because not everyone enjoys a cold steel butt plug as much as I do, so the choice of silicone offers something a little more accessible, and less likely to scare people away.

The silicone that's been chosen for the line has a reasonably firm composition on the whole, with just the right amount of give in the surface to prevent it from feeling too solid when squeezed, and no more, yet it still remains very responsive to being bent and flexed about, with only minimal effort required to do so. The surface of the material has a matte finish which feels pleasantly soft and velvety to the touch, though with a slight degree of drag which becomes apparent when you run a finger over it, but nothing that's significant as it's intended to be a wearable toy rather than a thrusting one. As you might expect this sort of finish is a magnet for dust once it's out of the packaging, so do be prepared to give it a quick rinse before use if it's been sitting uncovered in a drawer.

The construction quality of the Sirius is top notch and has quite clearly been done to a high standard, with a completely uniform finish and no anomalies or defects to be found anywhere. The only thing that could be nitpicked is that there is a slightly raised seam running along the full length of the toy, left over from the moulding process, but its not pronounced enough that anyone would feel it during use. One thing that's quite interesting is that if you look very carefully at the toy you can just make out which sections of it have an electro-conductive surface, because the shades of black vary subtly in these regions, so it gives you a visual component to tie into what you'll be feeling during use.

The Sirius has rather an orthodox shape for a prostate massager, with a bulging shaft that ebbs in and out before tapering down to a slender neck, somewhat similar to the designs you'll see coming from Nexus or Aneros. In total the insertable portion measures 4 1/2" long, which is slightly more than I generally find ideal for my body with this sort of toy, but of course that's a matter that will differ from individual to individual. I've provided a couple of photos below to show how it compares to a couple of other popular prostate massagers that I own, just to give a little perspective:

As you can see tip of the Sirius extends beyond that of the Ego E4, which has what I would consider the near-ideal size for myself.

When placed next to the Rocks Off Bad Boy, however, it's almost dwarfed by the size of the red behemoth.

One of the unique features of the Sirius, and perhaps what might be considered its genius, is that the shape can actually be adjusted, allowing you to mould it precisely to your body. Rather than being merely flexible in a temporary sort of way and always returning to its original shape, the core of the Sirius will hold the silicone body in whatever position you bend it to. This allows you to experiment with finding precisely the right shape to work with your anatomy, whether it be a right-angled L-shape, or the hooked horseshoe of a C-shape. This is especially advantageous if, like me, you find the insertable portion a little long, as you can still adjust it until it becomes comfortable. I've taken a couple to photos to demonstrate the extremes to which it can be bent, but it does have its limitations, namely in the tip. The endmost bulge is unfortunately not adjustable like the lower portion of the shaft, and permanently protrudes forwards, so you need to take this into account when adjusting the shape as a whole.

Due to the rather slender nature of the Sirius, inserting it is a pretty straightforward affair, and therefore equally well-suited to those nearer to the beginner end of the spectrum of anal play. We may consider electrosex a more advanced type of play, that people graduate to only after a series of prior experiences, but it really needn't be. The Sirius is wholly unintimidating, both in size and in supple material, and should be ideal for almost any man to try out. It's important to use only a water-based lube with the Silicone Noir range of toys, both because some silicone lubes can react poorly with silicone toys, and because non-water-based lubes won't act as a conductor for the electricity and will reduce the effect of the toy. Once it's lubed up it slides comfortably into the body, with the tapered tip gently parting the sphincter, and the silicone cushioning any pressure against the muscle. You feel a few bumps as you pass over each bulge, and then it's smooth down towards the neck. You want to position it so that the external portion of the Sirius sits flush against the perineum, while the internal portion is fully inserted and feels comfortable. It may take a few attempts to get it just right, but it's worth removing it a few times and adjusting how you have it bent until it feels perfect and nothing is poking you where you'd rather it didn't.

The Sirius has two separate regions through which electric charge is transmitted, the first is in the insertable section, and the second is in the perineum arm, so it's important that you have a dual channel unit such as the Flick Duo if you want to take advantage of this. If you only have a single channel unit then you'll only be able to use one of these at a time, and then you'll be missing half the fun. The base of the toy contains four small holes into which you plug the wires that come with your ElectraStim unit. Each pair of holes corresponds to one channel, so you plug the red and black connectors of one wire into the front pair for the perineum section, and you do the same with another wire in the rear pair for the insertable section. The slight disadvantage to the placement of the connectors is, that with all the plugs and wires hanging from the bottom of the toy, it means that you're unable to sit down whilst wearing it or employ any sort of a rocking motion. You're pretty much restricted to lying or your back or side, or using it in a standing / kneeling position.

When you turn on the ElectraStim unit there's quite a variety of different sensations going on all at once, which bear being covered individually. The first is really just the basic sensation you get from presence of the Sirius itself, which hugs your groin by applying a gentle pressure to both the prostate and the perineum. This is a pleasant feeling which will be immediately enjoyable to anyone who enjoys other sorts of anal toys, and wearing butt plugs during sex. The next sensation is that which comes from the perineum arm of the toy; it's very similar to what I described last week about attaching one of the adhesive pads to the region. It's best to apply a little of the conductive gel here to enhance the sensation, but you get that same general feeling of a tingling massaging action. What's really nice about it though is that the electricity doesn't stay confined to just the perineum, it travels all the way up from the bulb of the penis through the length of the shaft, creating a tingling sensation that encircles the entire surface of it, leaving your penis with the feeling that it's charged up like an electric fence with all this power running through it. The final sensation, and what I would consider to be the "main event" is that which comes from within the body, from the inserted section. This is the first time that I've tried electro play internally so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's actually quite unique and different to having things attached to the surface of the skin. It starts off with that familiar tingle, but then it grows into a feeling of warmth in the surrounding tissue. As you increase the power of the unit you start to feel these throbbing contractions, almost like a beating heart where your prostate is, and it's akin to a kneading sensation deep in the tissue. It's something I've never experienced before, and every time I've ever talked about wanting another prostate massager to really penetrate into the organ and deliver a richer sensation, this is finally what delivers. It's hard to describe, but while the effects of even the strongest vibrators naturally lessen the deeper the pulses pass into the body, there is no such diminishment here, and every part of the prostate seems to move and feel at once. It truly is quite spectacular. The other aspect of it is that as these contractions are taking place the physical response from the body acts to pull the Sirius in, and it manually massages the prostate with its form at the same time.

Really though, the key to the Sirius is the combination of all the sensations at once. It's targeting so many erogenous zones simultaneously: the prostate, the perineum, and even the penis feels some effects. There was a moment when I just stood there, everything feeling so charged up, that I really wanted to know what it would be like to use it during sex, because if masturbation is anything to go by then it's definitely an enhancement. As the Sirius works with the dual channels it gives you a great deal of control over the sensations, so you can calibrate it to feel precisely as much as you want in a given location. Typically I found that I was going for much more power in the internal section, because you can do so without getting the prickling sensation that comes along the perineum if you go too high there. In this way you can get the perfect balance for your needs. The fact that the Flick Duo has a selection of patterns, which I mentioned in detail in my review of it, is also a big factor in the performance of the Sirius, because it's these sudden bursts of power which elicit the best response from the body, rather than a constant flow. The patterns which alternate between the left and right channels are especially enjoyable, as the perineum and prostate are stimulated in turn, thus providing variety rather than an overload of sensation everywhere at once.

One thing to watch out for during use is that the Sirius doesn't slip out of place. The device is designed quite cleverly so that the conductive material isn't located around the neck of the toy, but if you relax too much from your enjoyment of the sensations and it starts to work its way free from the body, then a jolt of electricity going straight from the conductive section and into the sphincter with have the muscle contracting quite wildly, which while amusing can take you by surprise.

So the Sirius on the whole, what's the conclusion? If you want a truly deep and unique prostate massage experience then this has to be the toy for you. It's such a great blend of things you want to see in a sex toy: it's made well, it uses one of the best materials on the market, it's adjustable to individual body types, and it works to quite spectacular results. If you have an ElectraStim kit already then you'll want this attachment, it's well worth it.

The Sirius Noir is available directly from ElectraStim as of today. Check out their website!

Tantus Ripple Large

I'm finally down to the last piece from the lovely box of goodies that Tantus sent me over Christmas, their Ripple anal toy. It's one of those funny toys that's not quite a dildo, not quite a butt plug, and not quite anal beads, in fact it's quite similar to the Groove by Doc Johnson which I reviewed a little over 2 years ago, so expect some comparisons.

The Ripple is what I like to think of as a 3-in-1 toy, because while it doesn't neatly fit into any single category, it pulls design features from different sources to give this interesting fusion. It's a toy that's made very much with people who love texture in mind, and thankfully I count myself among them. If you're someone who's just getting into texture then conveniently the Ripple comes in two different sizes, intended to cater to your preferences and level of experience, but as you might expect I'm going to be looking at the large.

The shape of the Ripple can be summed up quite simply with the word "bumpy" because it exudes that on every level. It consists of a series of four balls, each with an ever increasing diameter, spaced out by short flat sections which also widen as you go down the length. It rather reminds me of one of these quirky Oriental skyscrapers, or a denuded artificial Christmas tree stood there without its branches. Despite bearing the suffix "large" it isn't actually that big of a toy, and it measures in at 6 1/2" of insertable length, with a circumference of 5 1/8" at the widest point.

Like all Tantus toys the Ripple is made of Tantus's own formula of 100% premium platinum silicone, which gives you all the usual benefits of being odourless, non-porous, completely body-safe, and sterilisable. As you'd expect from Tantus it's made to a very high standard and is defect-free, and the finish is smooth and shiny with minimal drag. The silicone has the same consistency as that of most Tantus products, so it has a good degree of flexibility and a little give in the surface when you squeeze it, but in terms of this particular product I actually find the silicone to be a little firm, and I'll explain why shortly.

My Ripple has the old-style thinner base
When it comes to using the toy it's not really much of a surprise, because it feels exactly how you would expect it to from looking at the shape. The tip slips into the body nice and easily because it's no bigger than the size of a grape, and the next two bulges follow seamlessly as they gradually step up in size. The fourth bulge can be a little bit of a challenge at first, and not because of its size, but more because of the length of the toy. Once you have the first three bulges inserted, and are halfway down the fourth, the tip of the toy will be pressing right up against the top of the rectum, and in order to get that last bulge inserted the tip needs to turn a right angle and pass through an internal sphincter and into the sigmoid colon. This is something you can't do too quickly, so you have to slowly apply pressure and wait for it to pop in without causing any discomfort, but rather usefully the flat section above the bulge is a comfortable place to briefly pause before you give it a try. This is the area where I find it most useful to compare it with the Groove, because the Groove has a slightly smaller tip, and is made from a softer and more flexible silicone, so it's far easier to get it fully inserted. This is why I said earlier that I find the silicone in the Ripple to be a little too firm, because when you have a toy that needs to go that deep, and make that sharp of turn, something softer and more flexible is really preferable.

When the Ripple is fully inserted you get quite a full sensation, more so than with the Groove, but it is rather prone to slippage due to there not be a great difference in size between the largest bulge and the neck section above the base, so it's not ideal for wearing as a sort of deep plug. The sensation you get from the Ripple is very much anus-based; some textured toys work on the prostate, but the pleasure you get from the Ripple comes from the feeling of each bulge popping out of the sphincter as you remove it, just in the way that anal beads are enjoyed. It is quite an enjoyable sensation, especially with the larger bulges, and you can amplify this by thrusting with the Ripple as well, which gives a more intense feeling as you build up speed, due to how pronounced the bulges are. Thrusting with this sort of texture is much more pleasurable for me than say the Buck, which feels far more subtle. The only limitation you have with thrusting is that you can only really use the first three bulges, as the fourth can't be inserted at speed due to the depth issues I mentioned before.

I really do like like the Ripple, but then I took out the Groove to compare the two, and using them one after the other it became apparent that I actually prefer the Groove. The softer silicone and the slight differences in shape just make the Groove feel better for me during use. It flexes around more easily inside the body and feels a little more comfortable, while next to it the Ripple feels a little hard and less friendly on your insides.

If you're looking for an anal toy like this then I would still recommend the Ripple as being a good and enjoyable product, but if you have the option to pick up the Groove instead then personally that's the one that I'd be inclined to go for. It's pretty rare that I recommend something above a Tantus toy, but in this instance it just doesn't quite fulfil the brief as well as it could.

We-Vibe Tango USB

$

Two years ago I went on a quest to find a powerful bullet vibe that I could use in place of the buzzy battery-powered vibes that came packaged as standard with many prostate massagers and butt plugs on the market, and that quest lead me to the We-Vibe Salsa. Almost instantly the Salsa became my all time favourite bullet and I was ready to recommend it to all who asked - and even those who didn't - but then about a year later two things happened: We-Vibe announced that they were phasing out the Salsa in favour of its identically-powered yet differently-shaped cousin, the Tango, and the power button on my Salsa gave up the ghost, becoming temperamental at best and entirely unresponsive otherwise.

Naturally I was quite upset to suddenly be Salsa-less, but I muddled along and made do with substitutes where I could, and then suddenly this month the generous folks at Simply Pleasure came to the rescue and offered me a new We-Vibe Tango to review. I say 'new' because it turns out that while We-Vibe were phasing out the Salsa, they took the opportunity to make a few design improvements to the Tango, and you can find out what I think about the changes below!

Traditionally bullet vibes have always been considered a product almost exclusively for women, but with more and more unisex toys containing bullet holes these days, items such as the Tango are proving to be a convenient powerhouse to give a welcome boost to an assortment of other novelties in your toy drawer.

The Tango is a nice compact vibe which measures in at only 3 1/2" long by 3/4" wide, putting it just a nose ahead of the Salsa (or 1/8" to be precise). It's a little longer than the battery powered bullets you get included with some toys, but the width allows it to easily fit inside products made by Tantus and Rocks Off amongst others. The body of the toy is manufactured in one single piece from ABS plastic, and comes in a choice of only two colours, blue or pink, down from a selection of six in the old Salsa/Tango line. This does make the product feel a little more gendered now, but I'm sure it's simply a reflection of which colours retailers reported as being the best sellers. The surface of the plastic is very smooth and shiny, and they've even managed to eliminate the faint moulding moulding mark that was on the tip of the Salsa, leaving it flawless. The end of the bullet is angled on one side, giving it a flat surface which resembles a tube of lipstick, while the other side of the tip is gently rounded as on the Salsa, but it doesn't reach quite such a pronounced point at the end. The base of the toy is finished off with a solid white silicone-rubber cap where the power button is located. The Tango has a lovely sleek appearance, and as well as being attractive it also looks quite discreet.

As with the Salsa the Tango has eight modes in total: four differing speeds as well as four varying vibration patterns. This makes it especially good if you're going to use it inside another toy, as standard bullets typically only have one mode of on or off. The bullet is activated by pressing the button at the end once, and every subsequent press of the button will change the Tango to the next mode. Once you cycle through all eight modes pressing the button again will switch the vibe off. If you want to switch the vibe off immediately then holding down the button for a couple of seconds will do this, and the next time you turn the vibe on it will remember which mode you were using last, which I found to be a very handy feature. The button is nice and responsive, you don't have to push it too firmly, and it feels reassuringly well-built. I said the same thing about the button on the Salsa before it failed on me, but you can feel that the button in the Tango is one of the areas that has been upgraded, and it makes a good "click" when you press it. The vibrations from the Tango are wonderfully strong, and even at the lowest setting they feel deep and rumbly. When you use the Tango inside another toy, such as a butt plug, it's this power which really helps the vibrations to travel through the thick layers of material and still be able to be felt deep inside the body. It has to be the vibration patterns which are my favourite part though, as the rhythmic pulsing of the vibe inside a butt plug causes some great sensations internally, especially in the prostate. The vibe by itself is quite quiet, though I would say it's a little louder than some other bullets I have, but still not enough to be heard through a closed door or a thin partition wall. When it's inside another toy the sound gets muffled exceedingly well and is even less obvious.

Aside from utilising the Tango inside bullet toys, the other way I can put it to use as a man is for penile stimulation, and this actually turned out to be one of my favourite things to do with the Salsa. Vibrations can feel incredibly stimulating on the penis if they're used in the correct manner. Typically I don't enjoy bullet vibes for this as they're too buzzy, but the Tango is different. The Tango delivers strong vibrating sensations deep into the penis, which feel great when it's applied to the head and around the frenulum. What's fun about the Tango compared to the Salsa is that the angled tip gives you two different ways to use it. When you have the flat side applied to the penis you have a greater surface area of the bullet making contact with the skin, which increases sensation. Typically I find myself using the rounded side more, just as I would have used the Salsa, and perhaps out of habit, but it's nice to have the option of both, and to be able to switch between them mid masturbation to add in a little variety. Despite the tip being slightly less pointed than on the salsa it's still great for applying more precise and concentrated stimulation, and the difference isn't discernible to me. The different vibration patterns also work well in this instance and can increase the level of pleasure, and hasten climax. It can be great to use just for teasing as part of foreplay, or in combination with a handjob to enhance the experience.

The Tango is a waterproof toy, which means it can be used in the bath or shower if you're considering taking your play outside the bedroom. It also means that it's very easy to clean, as you can splash as much water over it as you like. As a precaution you only want to wash it with hot water and anti-bacterial soap, or with your favourite toy cleaner / toy wipe. Plastic is a durable material, but it's not advisable to go boiling electronic items.

The Tango comes with a rather clever magnetic charging system that works through USB. It's comprised of two basic parts, a white dock which connects to the Tango magnetically, and a separate cable which runs between the dock and a USB port on a computer. The advantage of the magnetic system is that it allows the Tango to be 100% waterproof. The way this is achieved is by having a solid silicone-rubber cap at the end of the Tango, which is where the control button is located. Either side of the button are two metal electrodes which protrude above the rubber seal, and these in turn connect to two shallow metal depressions on the underside of the plastic dock. When all the metal parts are touching the current flows and the Tango charges. The improvement here is that the electrodes on the Tango protrude significantly further than those on the Salsa, and thus always maintain contact for the duration of a full charge, unlike on my Salsa which would frequently break the connection and stop charging well before it was done. The only slight downside to the improved electrodes is that their protrusion can feel somewhat uncomfortable on the finger when you're trying to press the button that sits between them, but I'm not going to complain as it's preferable to the nightmare I had charging my Salsa. The dock itself has a little orange LED on it which illuminates whilst charging is taking place, and goes out to indicate that it's complete. Once the is Tango is fully charged it has enough battery life to last for 2 hours, which is impressive for a toy of its size. Another new feature on the Tango is that an orange LED next to the power button will start flashing to indicate when the bullet is low on power, which is very handy so you know when to charge it up again, and avoid taking it out of your drawer next time only to discover it has only 60 seconds of life remaining.

One of the nice added features is that the Tango comes with its own white satin storage pouch. It's a little oversized compared to the diminutive bullet, but it's useful for putting the USB charging cable in too for when you're travelling.

Overall I'm exceptionally pleased with the Tango; it's powerful, versatile and a quality product. I'm very impressed that they've managed to iron out all the complaints I had about the Salsa, and as such I'd have to give it full marks. The difference in shape of the tip is something that I'm neither here nor there about; I do like the versatility of it, but I was also perfectly content with that of the Salsa, and could see myself being equally happy with either, so it's not a game-changer for me. The USB charging, though, is a massive improvement as far as I'm concerned, and in fact the only thing I could honestly say that I miss about the Salsa was its scarlet colour, otherwise I'm a full Tango convert.

The We-Vibe Tango USB is available right now from Simply Pleasure.
